The Salvation Army Continues to Serve Rhode Island Residents During COVID-19 Crisis

While the COVID-19 virus has brought on uncertain times, The Salvation Army in Rhode Island has been diligently working to provide supplies to those in need. Furthermore, all worship services and youth programs that were held inside of our Corps Community Center buildings have been stopped until it is safe to meet again

Additionally, we are distributing emergency food supplies Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 A.M. to 12 P.M. The Pawtucket, Newport and Providence locations have soup kitchens which are providing pre-bagged meals. “We are taking extra safety measures that we have put into place as far as packing these lunches,” said Major Roger Duperree, Divisional Secretary for The Salvation Army in Rhode Island. “Over the last 7 days we have seen 648 different households come to us for help, and that number will continue to rise.”

Thanks to the individuals from our Adult Rehabilitation Center, The Salvation Army has been able to carefully and diligently package food boxes following CDC guidelines. Major Roger Duperree adds, “We are very grateful to the people of Rhode Island who have come to our aid in times like this. We feel that we are not in this ourselves. There is a myriad of people who join hands with us.”

The Salvation Army is in need of more food and financial donations. If you would like to help, text “GIVERI” to 71777 or visit SalvationArmyRI.org.
