Hartford No Freeze Program offered by The Salvation Army

HARTFORD, CT - The Hartford No Freeze Program is being offered by The Salvation Army from December 15th through March 31st to protect the health and safety of people experiencing homelessness in Hartford. Preference will be given to Hartford residents wishing to access these services. Funding provided by Aetna and Hartford Foundation for Public Giving will allow The Salvation Army to provide the following services:

Triage Services

The Salvation Army will provide shelter diversion and triage services starting at 7:00 P.M. each night at the Warming Center located at Willie Ware Community Center, 697 Windsor Street, Hartford. Any individual experiencing homelessness is instructed to present at the Warming Center for triage. Once a household arrives, staff will try to divert the client from the emergency shelter system. If the household cannot be diverted, staff will call area shelters to fill available beds. If all shelters are at maximum capacity, including the Marshall House Overflow/ No Freeze shelter for families and children, the following shelter services will be offered:

Single Men:

  • Will be offered shelter at the Warming Center located at Willie Ware Community Center, 697 Windsor Street, Hartford, from 7:00 P.M. to 7:00 A.M. until maximum capacity is reached.

Single Women:

  • Will be offered shelter at the Warming Center located at Willie Ware Community Center, 697 Windsor Street, Hartford, from 7:00 P.M. to 7:00 A.M. until maximum capacity is reached.

Families with Children:

  • Will be offered a bed at the Marshall House Overflow Shelter, if space permits, overflow space at another shelter, or a one night stay at a hotel while funding is available.

Warming Center:

The Salvation Army will provide a Warming Center each night starting December 15th, 2018 through March 31, 2019 located at Willie Ware Community Center, 697 Windsor Street, Hartford, provided by the City of Hartford.

Individuals at the Warming Center will be provided with tables, chairs, blankets and access to restrooms, water, and nonperishable food. A Housing Case Worker will be on site up to 5 days a week for clients to work on tasks to assist them with obtaining housing. No household will be turned away from accessing triage or emergency shelter services unless they pose a safety risk to themselves or others.

All individuals and families experiencing homelessness are encouraged to call 211, dial 3, then 1, and set up a CAN (Coordinated Access Network) appointment.
